A standard type of arrangement for holiday apartments in the Canary Islands is for apartments to have 2 bedrooms and a convertible sofa in the lounge. This is far from ideal for 6 people because whoever sleeps on the sofa bed in the lounge cannot get to bed until everyone else does and also has to get up the earliest because the lounge and kitchen areas tend to be open plan and unless you can rise to a luxury apartment, they can be compact.

It is recommended that any group with six people rents a 3 bedroom apartment to ensure a good holiday and a good night's sleep for every person in the group.

Car hire is a touch more expensive once group numbers go above the standard 4 or 5 that the average car accommodates. It is possible to hire cars that seat up to 7 if planning ahead and allowing plenty of time.

The other consideration is to minimise the need for a car and to rent an apartment in a fairly large town that has good bus connections. One thing about the Canary Islands is that they are geared up for transporting tourists around the islands with a host of public bus services and private trips and taxis.

A good sized balcony adds another outside room to any apartment. It's a space for relaxing, eating outside, sunbathing and somewhere to escape to occasionally. Ask about the size of the balcony before booking because some of the ornamental balconies may look pretty but have no practical use whatsoever for holiday relaxation and self catering.
